Dr. Raynaldo Ortiz, an anesthesiologist from Dallas, has been accused of tampering with several bags of drugs in a Dallas surgical center. Ortiz was suspended by the Texas Medical Board and he now faces five charges of tampering with consumer products and five counts of adulteration of a drug. The Texas Medical Board called him “a continuing threat to public welfare”. Some media even called him “a medical terrorist”.
Raynaldo Ortiz is accused of swapping tampered IV bags over and over. He is also accused of sending 11 patients to hospital emergency rooms between May and August and killing 55-year-old Melanie Kaspar. The medical facility where the incidents started to happen released a video of Ortiz hiding and constantly moving several IV bags.
Before the suspension from the Texas Medical Board, Raynaldo Ortiz received three disciplinary actions. The first one was for failing to report a conviction for shooting a neighbor’s dog, the second one was for allegedly not administering life-saving measures to a patient and the third one was because one patient stopped breathing during a routine procedure.
