Fort Worth’s city manager David Cooke took a trip to Colorado during labor day. He was vacationing with a billionaire couple, Ed and Sasha Bass. According to Fox News, Cooke’s trip could be considered a conflict of interest.
Fort Worth City Council and Mayor Mattie Parker reprimanded Cooke and asked him to recuse himself from all city business tied to the Bass family. In a written statement, they said Cooke’s decision to take that trip to Aspen showed “questionable judgment” and that when asked about it, he “exercised poor communication to the public.” “Public trust is critical for us to serve effectively and impartially, and recent events have caused that trust to come into question,” the press release states.
Cooke first argued that the trip was made to promote the city of Dallas but later he admitted that it was just a “personal trip with friends.” Cooke, who has served as city manager since 2014, said on Wednesday that he would do better in the future. “I take my job as city manager very seriously and would never knowingly jeopardize the city, its brand, or do anything that would reflect poorly on our organization and community,” the email said, according to The Dallas Morning News.
